Bank Sponsors Time and Temperature Phone Service

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - In late April, First Carolina State Bank began sponsoring a popular time and temperature phone service that had been abandoned last winter when the previous sponsor went out of business.

"The service had been provided by a funeral home up until last November," Taylor said. "It was a very popular free service that received 2,500 calls a day."

The service costs the bank $60 a month to operate. It includes a brief infomercial that the bank can change or modify at any time. Beverley Simmons, VP/retail banking manager, reads the bank information for the phone service.

The bank currently has eight different messages that rotate. Four messages advertise the bank's Home Equity Line of Credit, one congratulates 2007 graduates, and the others encourage callers to visit the bank's investment specialist, use the online bill pay service and open a savings account for their child going to college.

"When the local time and temperature phone service was cancelled last year, there was an uproar in the community," said Taylor. "People really missed the free service. We decided to make the investment to reinstate this convenient community service. We're hoping it pays off for the bank."

First Carolina State Bank is a locally founded and locally managed community bank that opened in Rocky Mount in 2000 to serve the residents of Nash and Edgecombe Counties. In March 2005 the bank opened its second full service office in Tarboro. The bank offers a full range of financial products delivered via personalized, quality service.
